KingMaker Books ~ Let Imagination Reign

Book Four:            Treasure in the snow

The exciting conclusion to the KingMaker series. Stephen (or the name of your hero) has defeated the Dark Wizard (book two), the Skeleton King (book three), and brought the Ogres, Ents, and Dark Elves under his banner. His army is becoming more powerful and it seems the kingdom will soon be his. Only Prodromos, the dark elf magician and leader of the Army of the West, stands in his way.

But other forces are at work.

Sinister and silent. This enemy lies in wait for a mistake. A mistake which will cost Stephen everything.

Treasure in the Snow

An exerpt from the story:

“Your messenger is dead,” the Dwarf Master sneered. He held his great axe ready to strike.

“How?” The man moved to the floor and put his back to the wall. He kept his blade before him.

“Mark killed him. At their meeting place in the Blind Ranger Tavern.”

The man furrowed his brow. “How do you know this?”

“My spy informed me.”

“Then maybe it was your spy who aroused the boy’s suspicion.”

The Dwarf Master’s eyes narrowed. “I suppose that’s possible.” He stepped toward the man. “Possible, but not likely.”

“No. And why not?”

“Because he does not operate as carelessly as you do.”

“Oh? What makes you say that?”

“You do not hunt as we do. Every good hunter knows that movement is dangerous. Yet you allow your servants to roam freely.” The Dwarf Master flexed his jaw. “There are hunters in the wild, blood hunters, who have the ability to place their bodies into a kind of stasis. They control themselves to the point that even a careful observer can not determine if they live.” He sneered. “Yet when their prey is near, they’re ready in an instant and pounce.”

“There are many animals in nature who hunt this way,” the man said.

“Then why do you not!” The dwarf brought his axe back and slammed it into the belly of the man. The massive blade lodged in the rock wall.

The Dwarf Master stood back and glared at the man pinned to the wall. “You are unfit for our order.”
